First edition. Published the year Blaine was nominated as the Republican candidate for President. Blaine was a founding member of the Republican party in 1856, and served as a Representative and Senator from Maine from 1863 to 1881. He was Speaker of the House from 1869 to 1875. There is also a brief biography of Blaine's running mate, John A. Logan, who is notable for conceiving and inaugurating Memorial Day in 1868. Illustrated.
